WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today joined other GOP leaders and two small business owners to highlight the impact of the Democrats’ costly government takeover of health care on small businesses. Following are Boehner’s remarks at today’s event:
“Small businesses are the engine of job creation in their communities. Government is not. Small businesses want to provide quality, affordable health care to their employees and Republicans have been offering solutions all year long to help them to just that. Unfortunately, the Democrats’ takeover of our health care system would cost jobs and destroy small businesses all across our country.
“Having run a small business myself – like the folks here today – I know what it’s like to meet a payroll and to try to offer health care benefits to your employees. I want to introduce Kathie and Tom Veasey, who own a True Value Hardware store in Wilmington, Delaware. They understand the consequences of higher taxes and new government mandates, and they shouldn’t be punished by Washington for trying to do the right thing.”
NOTE: Kathie and Tom Veasey, who own a True Value Hardware store in Wilmington, Delaware, joined House GOP leaders at a press event today to highlight the impact of the Democrats’ health care plan on small businesses. They provide insurance to their employees but have seen huge increases in premiums, and believe the federal mandates and tax penalties in the House Democrats’ bill will hurt them and their employees.
